The aim of this study is to find an optical solution to recover in real time the 6 degrees of freedom of the spatial position of a wireless pen for new generations of 3-D tablet PCs. The 6-DOF position of the pen must be detected in a large working volume of 40 x 40 x 40 cm3 with a very high precision of 100 ¿Ým in real time. The latency of high precision detection must be less than 5 ms combined with one year autonomy on a single AAA battery and low cost of 5 US$.
