Short description (English)

Within the framework of a doctorate research project on „Negotiating Statehood in Sudan“ realised by Martina Santschi, Swisspeace is herewith mandated to scientifically analyse processes induced by the project „House of Nationalities“, the setting up of new COTALs, the development and implementation of the new Local Government Act on traditional leaders and its influence on the set-up and functioning of the five already existing COTALs and other peace promotion initiatives. Data made available to the PDIV-Sudan Desk shall enrich strategic and conceptual reflections concerning future peace promotion and state building programmes in South Sudan.

Project aims (German)

Im Rahmen des Engagements mit traditionellen Autoritäten erteilt die PA IV an swisspeace den Auftrag, in Form eines wissenschaftlichen Backstopping PA IV-Aktivitäten mit traditionellen Autoritäten zu begleiten.

Ziel des Mandates an swisspeace ist es, aktuelle Entwicklungen betreffend dem Local Government Act im Hinblick auf die Rolle von traditionellen Autoritäten und den COTALs zu analysieren. Zusätzlich wird Martina Santschi die operationelle Umsetzung der PA IV Aktivitäten im Südsudan konzeptionell und wissenschaftlich unterstützen und Empfehlungen für die weitere Strategieentwicklung erarbeiten.
