Short description
(English)
In 2008, Chatham House Africa Programme embarked on a three year project examining the economics of the Horn of Africa. The Political Affairs Division IV contributed to the launch of this project in 2008. The present project is a continuation of the support of PD IV to the research programme of Chatham House in the region. Beside the access to quality academic material, the participation of PD IV in that project allows its collaborators working on the Horn of Africa to participate in high level policy meetings organized by Chatham House.
Project aims
(English)

The objective of this project is to understand how the economics in the Horn of Africa work and interact with conflict and stability. This is an essential tool for building lasting peace and prosperity in the region.

The target audience of this project is policy makers in and outside the region, diplomats, academics, opinion formers and those with an interest in the Horn of Africa. The findings and reports of the project will be of interest to those involved in development, regional economics, conflict resolution, good governance and counter terrorism.

In regard with its increased involvement in the peace processes in this region, PD IV needs to consider the conflicts in their global dimensions. This project will help PD IV develop comprehensive analyses of the conflicts in the Horn of Africa and will provide DP IV with the essential knowledge to elaborate appropriate peace policies.
