The aim of this project (continuation of an ongoing PhD thesis at EPFL) is to demonstrate
1. the fabrication of a robust SOFC based on cathode microtubes (few mm in diameter,
about 10 cm long) out of a new, active, low temperature material (Nd2NiO4) and a double
layer electrolyte (ceria / scandia-zirconia), by cheap mass manufacturing processes (extrusion,
dipcoating)
2. ease of sealing, of rapid thermal cycling and of pressurised operation with such cells
3. power density of 0.3 W/cm2 at 700°C
4. a stack assembly concept with system application (kW micro-CHP, and combination
with a microturbine to a hybrid converter)
