Für eine 'historisch informierte Aufführungspraxis' alter Musik werden Kopien von Originalinstrumenten benötigt. Eine multidisziplinäre Forschung durch HKB (Lead), Empa und PSI untersucht Materialität und Fertigungstechnik französischer Blechblasinstrumente im 19. Jh. Die Erkenntnisse setzt der Basler Instrumentenbauer Egger um. Er ist weltweit führend in diesem hoch spezialisierten Marktsegment. Die Instrumente werden schliesslich durch das Sinfonie Orchester Biel gespielt.
