Model-Based Engine Calibration
Abstract
(Deutsch)
Modern internal combustion engines are highly complex systems with an increasing number of actuators, sensors, and calibration parameters. Their optimal operation in terms of fuel consumption and emissions make indispensable the use of sophisticated control strategies. The large amount of degrees of freedom, however, renders the classical extensive calibration approach impracticable. Therefore, accurate physical real-time models are necessary to predict the engine behavior. A strategy is to be developed which, firstly, permits the calibration of engine models with a minimum measurement effort and, secondly, allows for the model-based optimisation of engine control parameters with respect to emission and fuel consumption.
