HANDMOVE - Feasibility study of a multi-movement surgical micro-saw handpiece
Abstract
(French)
The goal of this project is to invent, design and evaluate the feasibility of a novel mechanical transmission for surgical handpieces with a multi-movement micro-saw. The function of the transmission is to transmit the mechanical power available at the motor shaft to the saw blade, while converting the continuous rotary motion into a reciprocating motion with selectable variable characteristics. Such an instrument constitutes a decisive breakthrough compared to the handpieces existing today on the market which all have only a single movement: surgeons could then use one single multi-motion-handpiece to perform operations instead of four different handpieces as they usually do today.
