Water companies face crucial difficulties trying to monitor on a daily basis the high variety of trace level pharmaceuticals encountered in most waters. We propose the development of a series of new molecularly imprinted polymers possessing versatile molecular recognition properties to be used for the production of a novel high throughput assay for the screening, in a time- and cost-efficient fashion, of various water samples for assessing the presence of pharmaceuticals.
