The goal of the current discovery project is to develop the detailed concept, to demonstrate the feasibility and realize the first prototype of the world's fastest, versatile, miniature, high-resolution, rotary, optical encoder. XCoder targets a rotation speed far beyond the unprecedented 1'000'000 rpm and is compatible even with future, high-speed, emerging applications. It can reach up to 23 bit resolution and features eccentricity compensation in a single, miniature device with a 4 mm diameter disc.
