Solar process for high quality syngas from low grade fuels or from wastes as fuel for cement kilns (SOLSYN)
Abstract
(Deutsch)
The goal is to transform low grade fuels or wastes into a high quality syngas (H2/CO) by using solar steam gasification. This syngas shall be used directly as fuel for the main firing of cement kilns. In an industrial application typically 30 MW syngas shall be fed continuously to the kiln. Advantages are use of renewable solar energy (CO2 reduction) to burn cement clinker, lower energy consumption per ton of clinker, better product quality and increased production capacity of a kiln. Prior to this project laboratory tests have demonstrated the feasibility of solar steam gasification for a wide range of feedstock. In this project a 300 kW solar industrial prototype shall be realized which will then allow to design an industrial size application.
