MAGELLAN - a 2.4GHz low-power radio transceiver with integrated DC-DC supply for wireless wristwatches, automotive remote-controls, and wireless sensor network applications
Abstract
(Englisch)
The MAGELLAN project ultra low-power wireless wrist-watches, radio remote-controls for the automotive industry, and wireless sensor networks. The goal of the project is to leverage innovative RF CMOS circuits in CSEM¿s and ASULAB¿s IC portfolio, and realize a beyond state-of-the-art 2.4GHz RF transceiver for applications that require operation on the worldwide 2.4GHz band, but cannot use standards such as Bluetooth, Bluetooth Low-Energy, or Zigbee. With respect to the latter standards, the targeted applications will require an order of magnitude better propagation distance, more than a factor-of-two lower current consumption, compliance with a larger set of battery types and voltages, and enhanced robustness especially for automotive applications in extreme electrical and environmental conditions. The MAGELLAN project will be steered by a consortium of Swiss industrial end-users that will contribute to the development of the MAGELLAN IC and that will then use it in their wireless product portfolio.
