Abstract

It is the objective of this project to provide a new way of controlling sensorless EC motors. State of the art amplifiers for sensorless applications suffer from bad performance below 1'000 rpm. For surgery applications, drivers are needed which operate reliably between 100rpm and 100'000rpm. The actual standard for motors in dental and surgery applications does not allow integration of encoders since they cannot withstand an autoclave process. Within the scope of this project, a new concept will be developed and industrialized, overcoming limitations of state of the art solutions for sensorless motor control. The suggested approach based on a generic algorithm is expected to significantly extend the dynamic control range for EC motors while low cost off-the-shelf components can be deployed for integration.
