microPPN: Target Specific Electrodes for Deep Brain Stimulation of the Pedunculpontine Nucleus.
Abstract
(English)
Deep Brain Stimulation is a neurostimulation procedure developed for the treatment of movement disorders. The Pedunculopontine Nucleus (PPN) is a new stimulation target which dramatically improves the symptoms of gait and posture problems in Parkinson's patients. This project aims to develop the first target specific chronically implantable electrode for the PPN which can stimulate the region with enhanced precision, while decreasing operation time and potential side effects.
