Poken¿s patent-pending low-cost radio-frequency technology, integrated into a small, wearable accessory, makes it easy and instantaneous for users to exchange digital pointers to web-based objects, in the real world. Poken has built an Internet platform that centralizes the registration of communicating objects, and enables new types of interactions between individuals in the real world. One successful application, which has already generated over $1m in revenue to the company in 3 months, is of instantly connecting users to one-another across social networks, with a simple touch of a keychain accessory. Poken¿s first product, a hardware ¿social business card¿, along with its suite of online widgets, helps social networks streamline the process of connecting people and improve the usability of online tools for real-world networking. The goal of this project is to optimize the design of this first product to broaden its marketability to a larger market. This includes raising its battery life from 3 months to over 3 years, making the design more compact by integrating more of the functionality into a single System-on-Chip, and reducing the overall cost of the bill of material.
