Miniaturized reciprocating pumps for biomedical and fuel cell applications
Abstract
(Englisch)
In a first part of the project, we will design and realize a micropump platform, comprising 20 flat, ball-valve micropumps that have thin permanent magnets in their pumping membrane for actuation. Thin electromagnetic circuits act on these magnets and allow addressing the pumps individually to operate them for use in the biomedical research field. In a second part of the project, we propose a micropump that is actuated by a set of arc-shaped permanent magnets, mounted in a 3-phase arrangement on the axis of a DC minimotor. This pump is addressed by the low voltage of a direct methanol fuel cell and its role is to avoid fuel-oxidant depletion effects near the fuel cell¿s electrodes. Pump and fuel cell together will form an integrated system for sustainable miniaturized power generation.
