Novel System for the Dynamic On-Site Calibration of Weigh in Motion (WIM) Sensors
Résumé des résultats (Abstract)
(Allemand)
With ever increasing traffic and the consequent economic and social costs it is imperative to use reliable traffic monitoring methods. Currently, weigh in motion (WIM) systems are used for in situ monitoring of important traffic parameters such as gross mass, axle loads, vehicle speed and classification. Standardized methods used on a routine basis require considerable resources in terms of man power for calibration. With the increase in monitoring and the demand for more WIM systems, long term calibration using current systems can become economically overwhelming especially in developed countries with the high cost of labor. As a result it is imperative to develop innovative methods for the automatic calibration of weigh in motion (WIM) systems. Such automatic dynamic methods will allow more frequent and cost effective calibration in the long run that could meet the emerging customer demand worldwide. As competing firms are already working in this field it is important for Swiss firms to also maintain their competitive edge in innovation in dynamic calibration of WIM sensors.
