Short description
(French)
Development of material resistant to high pressure aluminium and magnesium die casting.
Abstract
(English)
Increasing competition in die casting of light alloys for the car industry renders the erosion of steel shot sleeves used for injection prohibitive. In order to increase the shot sleeve lifetime, investigation of wear mechanisms and development of new materials are necessary. A new liquid metal immersion facility, built to simulate the steel erosion, will allow a detailed microstructure investigation, by mainly electron microscopy, and the modelling of mechanisms. The purpose is to develop a steel based material and its coating that is resistant to this wear.
