New generation thermal insulation ceramic composites in gas turbines for operation up to T=1600 °C
Abstract
(Deutsch)
The project is targeted at the design of a new generation of thermal insulations capable of sustaining the operation of gas turbines at surface temperatures up to 1600oC. This will promote the development by ALSTOM of more efficient, ecologically clean and more competitive gas turbines. Porous alumina materials with different microstructures will be designed and tested towards their feasibility for insulating gas turbines at higher operation temperatures. The project is divided into three phases: fabrication and characterization of porous alumina parts, development and design of a suitable multilayer structure that contains the porous alumina as insulation material and testing and validation of the prototype.
