TestChest : The first physiologically accurate ventilation and breathing simulator incorporating lung/heart interactions for the certification of closed-loop control ventilators.
Résumé des résultats (Abstract)
(Anglais)
Ventilators should allow patients to overcome an acute disease state or illness impairing their natural ability to breathe. However, due to misjudgments or errors of the caregivers, thousands of patients die needlessly every year because they were ventilated inappropriately. The new generation of closed-loop-control ventilators, developed in particular by Hamilton Medical AG, promises fundamental enhancement of this deplorable situation, The ISO has recognized the need for physiologic closed loop control and just released the first standard to regulate the testing of such device. Unfortunately, these tests cannot be properly conducted because of the blatant lack of a physiologically accurate non-linear simulator, incorporating all relevant interactions with hemodynamics. The development of such a ¿TestChest¿ is the goal of this project, giving Hamilton AG a distinct advantage in conducting the necessary tests in order to bring their new ventilator to the market. Hence our goal is two-fold: Create economic impact and help save human lives!
