Improving Flow Properties of Calcium Carbonate Slurries through Control of Adsorption Processes at the Water-Calcite Interface (Feasibility Study)
Abstract
(English)
This feasibility study addresses the relation between the adsorption properties of poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) on the calcite-water interface and the flow properties of calcium carbonate slurries. The adsorption properties of PAA will be studied in situ by optical reflection techniques and atomic force microscopy (AFM). These results will be used to improve the flow properties of calcium carbonate slurries as used in a range of industrial applications including papermaking, formation of paints and surface coatings.
