Flow Speed Sensor based on Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy
Résumé des résultats (Abstract)
(Anglais)
This feasibility study aims to develop a novel type of liquid flow sensor based on fluorescence correlation spectroscopy and on optical fibers. Such sensors can be used to replace conventional speedometers. But the dimension of these sensors heads would be in the millimeter range and below, the measurement volume in the pico- to femto-liter range, and the whole system offers all advantages that characterize fiber devices, i.e. flexibility, integration into host, contact free measurements, immunity against electromagnetic interferences etc. The inertness of silica allows applications in bioreactors, waste water management, and corrosive media. The sensors can be integrated into composite material that is used for the construction of high performance parts: On model structures in water tanks, they allow verifying results based on computer modeling, or, embedded in critical parts of sailing yachts, they would permit, laminar to turbulent transition detection or stall onset detection, critical parameters for optimizing the performance of a boat.
