BRIDGE
Kurzbeschreibung
(Englisch)

BRIDGE is seeking funding for the collaborative development, writing, production and wide

dissemination of a much–needed BRIDGE Cutting Edge Pack on Gender and Governance. This forms

part of the increasing work on governance being undertaken at the Institute of Development Studies

(IDS) where BRIDGE is located.

Objective: To meet the urgent need of policymakers and practitioners for an accessible and concise

overview of existing policy and practice on governance, identifying possible entry points for gendersensitive

approaches that go beyond rhetoric, as well as providing some concrete recommendations for

policy and practice.

Reach: The Pack will be disseminated in print version free to 1,500 key institutions and specialists

around the world and will be available free to download from the BRIDGE website. The Gender and

Governance In Brief bulletin will be disseminated to a total of over 14,000 readers (in paper and

electronic format).

Capacity: This Pack will be a collaborative effort between experts and partners, particularly from the

South, including expertise in the BRIDGE International Advisory Committee, and the BRIDGE team of

researchers. It will build on BRIDGE’s previous work on gender and governance.

Timing: Published July 2008.

Funding sought: Total budget £112,533 in English only, or £129,268 in English, and French or Spanish,

with option for partial funding i.e. of one element of the Pack (e.g., Gender and Development In Brief)

(see budget in appendix two for cost breakdown)

Mission

“Supporting gender advocacy and mainstreaming efforts”

BRIDGE seeks to transform development practice by supporting global gender advocacy and

mainstreaming efforts down to the operational level, by bridging the gaps between theory, policy

and practice. This is undertaken through accessible and appropriate knowledge creation, sharing,

and management, in long-term collaboration involving mutual capacity-building with Southern and

Northern partners.

October 2006 marked the start of the current phase of the BRIDGE Gender Knowledge Programme

(2006-9). It has three key objectives in supporting effective gender advocacy and mainstreaming:

(a) Informing from the cutting edge – through the development of the practical Cutting Edge Packs

on priority themes of the international gender and development community

(b) Facilitating information sharing and networking – through the gender mainstreaming web

resource, Siyanda - www.siyanda.org

(c) Supporting the specific information needs of policymakers and practitioners – through the

BRIDGE Funder Helpdesk and the more informal servicing of public requests
