Short description
(English)
Development of small molecule inhibitors of the respiratory syncytial virus polymerase complex.
Abstract
(German)
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the principal cause of lower respiratory disease in infants and children necessitating 75,000 hospitalizations per year in the US alone. Despite its importance as a pathogen, there is neither a treatment nor a vaccine against RSV available. The project partners will develop novel, first-in-class antiviral drug candidates disrupting the interaction between two proteins of the RSV replicase complex, which is crucial for virus propagation.
