An important trend in medicine and chemistry is the miniaturization of fluidic systems. Miniaturization allows a reduction in the required amounts of chemicals, increases sensitivity, speed of analysis and portability, and reduces costs. Within this project we plan to develop new polymer-based materials and methods for fabricating microfluidic devices. These materials and methods will combine low cost and ease of handling and may also lead to significantly improved control of fluid flow via novel modes of actuation.
