COST-Action MP0603 - Chemical imaging by means of CARS-microscopy
Short description
(English)
Goal of the project is to use the single-beam microCARS approach based on femtosecond pulse shaping for studying micrometer sized airborne aerosols, and especially individual liquid microdroplets trapped by optical tweezers. In this framework we will identify the possibilities offered by the cavity field enhancement allowed by the spherical shape of the drops. Stimulated Raman processes and CARS coupling to the cavity modes will be optimized by pulse shaping in order to obtain both the size and the composition of airborne aerosols. The results will be applied to the recognition of bacteria and viruses embedded in droplets, which constitute the principal vector of inflectional diseases.

Abstract
(English)
CARSDROP aims at developing a single-beam microCARS apparatus based on phase-shaping of spectrally broadened femtosecond pulses for the study of aerosol droplets. The research program is founded on the combination of three techniques: single-beam microCARS, femtosecond pulse-shaping, and single aerosol particle detection.
