Description succincte
(Anglais)
A novel, flexible Ru(IV)-catalyst, which is often considerably faster and milder than existing literature Ru-catalysts, will be used to induce Friedel-Crafts type C-C coupling reactions in indole and related compounds. This Ru(IV) catalyst allows one to dispense with the use of environmentally unfriendly and wasteful leaving groups by utilizing alcohols (rather than carbonates or acetates...etc.) as substrates. The research in this proposal is designed to extend the synthetic applications of these new Ru(IV)-salts, while probing the mechanism of this reaction.

Résumé des résultats (Abstract)
(Anglais)
Novel dicationic RuI(IV) allyl complexes catalyse Friedel-Crafts-type allylation reactions. Moreover, the Ru-catalysed allylation of indole and thiol compounds, using alcohols as substrates, is quite rapid and requires no additives. No leaving group is necessary.
