COST-Action P21 - Physics of Droplets
Short description
(English)
Goal of the project is to use microdroplets as ultimate microfluidics device in order to identify bacteria. Bacteria will be sorted out from background aerosols, incorporated in the droplets, and trapped. Further analysis of the bacteria type will be performed either spectroscopically or using the coalescence with bioassay containing droplet.

Abstract
(English)
Rapid detection and identification of pathogenic aerosols such as Bacillus anthracis (anthrax) from potential bioterrorism release, as well as epidemic agents of infectious diseases are urgent safety issues. In the MBA project, we propose to develop and build a compact and reliable device, which allows for real-time detection and optical identification of airborne particles. The device is designed to address and sort out individual particles of different size, shape, and composition recording a complete set of measuremens for each detection event including: Mie scattering intensity at two different wavelengths, speed of the particle in the flux, UV-visible fluorescence spectrum.
