COST-Action D35 - From molecules to molecular devices: control of electronic, photonic, magnetic and spintronic behaviour
Short description
(English)
The two key goals of the proposed project are: (i) to explore the role of metal-metal interactions in organometallic d8 chromophores in order to assess the potential of this class of molecules for OLED (organic light emitting diode) applications; (ii) to explore the luminescent sensor potential of organometallic d8 chromophores.

Abstract
(English)
A series of five new Pt(II) complexes has been synthesized and characterized by optical spectroscopic means. By contrast to many previously investigated similar compounds of this type, our molecules are highly soluble. The new complexes have tunable emission properties, and excited-state lifetimes. One of the new molecules switches the emission color from red to yellow upon protonation. Several of our complexes turn out to be potent photooxidants which makes them interesting candidates as photosensitizers of long-range electron transfer reactions, e.g., in donor-bridge-acceptor dyads.
