COST-Action 639 - Greenhouse gas budget of soils under changing climate and land use (BurnOut)
Description succincte
(Anglais)
The aim of this proposal is to conduct a climate change manipulation experiment, where we will enrich treeline ecosystems with CO2 and warm undisturbed soils by 3K. This experiment will be the basis of the research platform 'Climate change at alpine treelines' for scientists and students of multiple disciplines from WSL and other institutes in Switzerland and Europe. So far, we have 12 research groups participating, but the experiment will be opened for any researcher bringing in new and novel contributions. In this proposal we ask for infrastructural support to maintain the CO2 enrichment and for two diploma theses estimating the response of soil respiration and DOC leaching to the experimentally changed climatic conditions.

Résumé des résultats (Abstract)
(Anglais)
The project supported a climate change manipulation experiment, where treeline ecosystems were enriched with CO2 and undisturbed soils were warmed by 4K. This experiment was the basis of the research platform 'Climate change at alpine treeline'. Scientists and students of multiple disciplines from WSL and other institutes in Switzerland and Europe profited from the project. This COST project supported infrastructural costs to maintain the CO2 enrichment (+200 ppm) and five diploma theses estimating the response of microbial communities, soil respiration and DOC leaching to the experimentally changed climatic conditions.
