EUPHRESCO vertieft die Kooperation der nationalen Pflanzenschutzforschung auf europäischer Ebene. ACW ist Konsortiums-Partner bei der Erarbeitung des EUPHRESCO-Projekts AMBROSIA. Der Neophyt Ambrosia artemisiifolia hat bereits einige europäische Regionen stark verseucht und ist im Begriff, sich in weiteren Regionen auszubreiten. Ambrosia verursacht mit ihrem aggressiven Pollen Gesundheitsprobleme beim Menschen in Form von Heuschnupfen, Allergien und starkem Asthma. Im Rahmen einer europäischen Zusammenarbeit wird die wissenschaftliche Basis für die Entwicklung von nationalen Richtlinien zur interdisziplinären Bekämpfung von Ambrosia erarbeitet.

EUPHRESCO aims to increase cooperation and coordination of national phytosanitary (statutory plant health) research programmes at the EU level through networking of research activities and mutual opening of national programmes. ACW is a Research Consortium Partner. Ambrosia artemisiifolia is an annual weed, which is native to North America, and has highly allergenic pollen which causes allergic rhinitis and severe asthma in over 20% of the population of affected areas. Highly infested regions in Europe are the French Rhone valley, the Italian Po valley and some former Yugoslavian states as well as Hungary. Since around 15 years an increasing abundance in other countries of Europe – among them Switzerland – is observed.

Nach Abschluss des 12 monatigen Projektes liegt ein wissenschaftlicher Bericht (Original in Englisch, übersetzt in die Sprachen der Partnerländer) vor. Die besten Bekämpfungsstrategien – angepasst an verschiedene Umgebungen wie Landwirtschaft, Gartenbau, Strassen- und Baustellenunterhalt, Naturschutzgebiete – sind beschrieben und werden durch Resultate gemeinsamer Versuche unterlegt. Diese Basis für nationale Bekämpfungsrichtlinien soll die Sensibilisierung für die Ambrosiabekämpfung in den Partnerländern erhöhen. Die internationale Zusammenarbeit, welche mit diesem Projekt beginnt, soll sich vertiefen und intensivieren indem weitere Partner von den Arbeiten profitieren können und eine Ausdehnung der Forschung auf andere invasive Pflanzen ins Auge gefasst wird.

As experimental results are produced, they are collated in the Scientific Report, which will be finalised by a synthesis of the best-bet strategies. This synthesis will be reflected in the final version of the basis for National Guidelines.
At project completion plans, have been made for the submission of papers to scientific journals for those results that warrant this. In addition, plans for the continuation of the trans-national research on ambrosia and other invasive plants have been made. These plans conclude the scientific report. The basis for National Guidelines will heighten the awareness of the ambrosia problem in the partner countries and explain the measures for prevention and control, relevant to the target audiences in the different control scenarios.

Dänemark (Leader), Deutschland, Slowenien und die Schweiz sind Projektpartner. Drei Workshops werden dazu beitragen, Wissen auszutauschen, Ideen und Versuchsprotokolle zu entwickeln sowie Ergebnisse zu besprechen und die Basis für nationale Richtlinien auszuarbeiten. Neben gemeinschaftlichen Gewächshaus- und Feldversuchen werden Literaturstudien durchgeführt. Die Arbeiten beginnen Anfangs November 2008.
