Short description
(English)
Pre-study for an intelligent medical screwdriver with Electronic Torque Indicator (ETI) to improve the safety and reliability of surgical interventions.
Abstract
(German)
In orthopedics it is important that the torque of the fixation screws is sufficient to ensure proper attachment, yet stay below the damage threshold for the bone substrate. The goal of this prestudy is to conduct research into feasibility of a novel and innovative electronic torque sensor system which can be incorporated into the handle of a surgical screwdriver. The torque sensor shall be based on an appropriately packaged piezoresistive thick-film torque cell and shall withstand the required number of steam autoclave sterilization cycles.
