Thanks to the CTI WOME project results and further Abilis investments, Abilis has announced the availability of the world's smallest digital mobile TV receiver for DVB-H/T applications, produced in a 5mm x 5mm CSP package. This important success as well as the growth of the Abilis start-up from 12 to 45 people today would not have been possible without the outstanding work by all the partners of the WOME project. Compared to the competition, Abilis AS-101 & AS-102 products are well positioned in various market segments especially thanks to the flexible and programmable OFDM DSP platform developed in the WOME project. However, this platform has some limitations in terms of cost and power-consumption that will prevent Abilis to be as successful in other market segments, and also in terms of computing power for future OFDM standards such as the DVB-T2 which requires as much as 10 times more computing power than DVBT. The objective of the SODA (Scalable OFDM DSP Architecture) project is to develop a scalable OFDM DSP platform that will replace the existing Abilis platform available today, with the following performance gains: 3 times less area and 2 times less power consumption for standards such as DVB-H & DVB-T At least 10 times more computing power for future OFDM standards such as the DVB-T2 The new OFDM DSP platform to be designed in SODA requires developing a new, very high performance, scalable and specialized programmable DSP processor outperforming all other processors on the market for those applications. Based on CSEM¿s experience gathered during WOME with Macgic® DSP and other research and industrial projects such as the recent icyflex DSP, a CSEM pre-study financed by Abilis showed that the performance needed by such a DSP is achievable. It is also mandatory for this project to use a very advanced technology like a 65 nanometer or finer CMOS process.
