The project concerns a novel approach for preventing chemotherapy-induced hair loss. The approach relies on topical activation of the so-called stress protein response that protects cells against physical or chemical insults. A prototype device is to be built that can specifically deliver a precise and effective (low) heat dose to hair follicles in the scalp and, possibly, eyebrows prior to chemotherapy, and proof of concept of device performance in humans is to be obtained.
