Injectable Nanocomposite for Local Hyperthermia
Abstract
(English)
The purpose of the project is to provide a nanotechnology based functional implant for minimally invasive image-guided treatment of bone Lesions. The primary objective is to provide a treatment that combines anti-tumor-effect, stabilization of bone fractures and pain relief in one procedure. A suspension containing monomers of a bone cement and nanosized iron oxide particles will be injected in spine tumors leading to in-situ formed implants of bone cement with nanoparticles. Applying an alternate magnetic field, the nanoparticles generate heat in the tumor and will destroy cancer cells locally.
