Development of a humidity-responsive adaptive membrane for smart clothing applications
Abstract
(English)
Schoeller Textil AG and EMPA St. Gallen aim at developing a novel membrane with unpredecessent adaptive properties. The goal is to make a humidity-responsive breathable membrane incorporated in textiles, which will increase the comfort of the wearer. The membrane shall have a high water-vapor permeability in humid conditions and a low water-vapor permeability in dry conditions. Thanks to this new membrane, the wearer will decrease the inefficient part of the sweating, hence gaining energy in comparison to a person wearing a textile without adaptive membrane. Thus, it should additionally increase his sportive performance.
