In veterinary and human orthopaedics the trend exists to employ lasers to remove or reshape damaged cartilage. The undesired thermal effects leading to necrosis of surrounding tissue remain however a major drawback. This feasibility study will investigate Cartilex technology combining lower energy diode laser with indocyanine green (ICG) dye for precise removal of hyaline cartilage surfaces with minimized thermal effects. The study will permit the establishment of proprietary protocol leading to cost effective laser application in veterinary and human orthopaedics.
