The project investigates the influence of crystallinity of various Hydroxyapatite thermally sprayed coatings on the formation of new bone cells, with the goal to improve the long term stability of implants into the body and to integrate them faster into the bone.The second part of this project aims the implementation of anti-bacterial activity into the HA coating, principally based on Silver.Finally the project will deliver a new type of coating for medical implants with solubility tailored HA layers, preventing infection of the bone during first operation or post replacement, whilst optimising the fixation of implants into the bone.
