Pulsed Yb3+ power amplifier based on next generation microstructured active fibers
Abstract
(German)
In the frame of the present project we want to design and build a laboratory prototype of a high power fiber amplifier that can be industrialized competitively with the following features:Ø large core fundamental mode fiber with: an Yb3+ doped core size in excess of 40 mm, a pump cladding size of > 200mm. The numerical aperture (NA) of the core versus the pump cladding shall be < 0.1, while the numerical aperture of the pump cladding vs. the outer coating shall be high enough to achieve guidance of the pump light;Ø distributed high power side pumping with thin prisms of high index material and with adapted diode pumpe modules;Ø amplification of short pulses down to a duration in the nanosecond range.
