A surgical replacement of eye lenses by intra-ocular lens (IOL) implants should optimally restore the visual power of the patient. With conventional fixed focus lenses the depth of focus is only partly adaptable to the individual. By modifying the transmission of the lens locally in phase and amplitude an increase in depth of focus is achieved. A study is proposed to find the relevant optimised parameters of this pupil-filter and to assess the improvement in ophthalmologic applications. Special emphasis is on a producibility with reasonable complexity and cost. The method presents substantial advantages over existing multifocal IOL (MIOL).
