Development of a Laser Ablation-Pulsed Glow Discharge-Time Of Flight Mass Spectrometer (LA-GD-TOFMS) for direct local analysis of solids and speciation studies
Résumé des résultats (Abstract)
(Anglais)
The project aims to couple a laser ablation system to a pulsed glow discharge time-of-flight mass spectrometer using a newly designed LA-cell combined to a glow discharge cell for direct analysis of organic and inorganic solid samples. For the organic application it is of major interest to gain elemental information in addition to fragmentation and molecular information. This ¿combined¿ inorganic and organic analysis approach could be in the future very promising for biological samples and could provide spatially resolved molecular and elemental information from a single ablation site. The aerosol will be transported into the discharge by a pressure gradient and the ionization will be achieved during the different excitation regimes of a pulsed GD source. Furthermore, ions are extracted through an interface into the TOFMS (TOFWERK, Thun). Sampling efficiency and ion transmission will be studied in detail to optimize such a new instrument configuration.
