Superluminescent light-emitting diodes (SLEDs) are semiconductor light sources used in applications such as optical coherence tomography (OCT), fiber-optic gyroscopes (FOG), and fiber-optic test equipment (FOT). Gallium Nitride (GaN) is a semiconductor suitable for generating visible light in the blue range. The aim of this application is to realize a novel GaN-based SLED that enables next generation high-resolution OCT, as well as targets new SLED markets such as biological and chemical sensing, and light source for display and illumination systems.
