In this project, different polymerization processes typically used for the production of polylactic acid are analyzed aimed to improve existing technologies and explore new possibilities. Namely, direct polycondensation of lactic acid and ring opening polymerization of the dimer (lactide) will be considered both in bulk and in supercritical medium. A comprehensive experimental analysis of the different reactions will be carried out with reference to selected ¿base case recipes¿. The data will be used to validate suitable mathematical models of the polymerization process. Such models are intended to be implemented in process simulators to design reaction paths, reactor types and operating modes in order to control/optimize the quality of the final product
