Feasibility project - Wireless ultrasonic sensor network for corrosion monitoring in refineries.
Abstract
(English)
Refineries are subject to pipeline corrosion due to the use of abrasive chemicals during the refining process. Current manual inspection methods are costly and cannot permanently assess the corrosion level of all infrastructures because of cost, and complexity/lack of access to certain areas. We propose the development of a network of ultrasonic wireless sensors measuring corrosion at regular interval. These sensors will be placed in such areas that need constant monitoring or cannot be easily accessed. This feasibility study will demonstrate that low power, high temperature, high reliability ultrasonic sensors are achievable at a reasonable price.
