Photodynamic Therapy of Acne and Seborrheic Dermatitis
Résumé des résultats (Abstract)

The applicants' proprietary substance PDD/01 has been shown in healthy volunteers during photodynamic therapy (PDT) to reduce the activity of the human sebaceous gland and to exert an strong antimicrobial effect. Both properties render this drug interesting for the treatment of sebaceous gland related diseases such as acne and seborrheic dermatitis (SD). Each of these conditions is quite frequently encountered and lacks an efficient and safe treatment with acceptable side effects, representing therefore a very considerable market for PDT. In the present project, the efficacy of our drug PDD/01 for acne and seborrheic dermatitis shall be assessed on patients in a medical pilot study at the University Hospital of Geneva (HUG) using dedicated light delivery systems. The evidence of an efficient and safe reduction of acne and SD in patients during this medical investigation will enable PhotoDerma SA to attract (corporate) venture capital for the realisation of the subsequent controlled clinical trials and to interest a globally active pharmaceutical company for the marketing and distribution of the product following approval.
