To significantly improve design, dimensioning and construction of reliable power electronic systems, it is necessary to calculate transient junction temperatures of power modules and power passives and control the cabinet temperatures during operating conditions like temporary overload. The aim of this project is to develop methods and software to extract thermal equivalent circuit models from 3D component and cabinet descriptions. Coupling these thermal models with power electronic circuits allows extremely fast and accurate thermal-electrical simulations, which provide an excellent basis for the design of highly reliable systems.
