Power Embedded in Active Card and Power On Chip for pocKet Electronics Takeoff
Abstract
(Englisch)
The main purpose of the project is to provide miniaturized electrical power supplies for electronic and electromechanical microsystems. The possibilities offered by these miniaturized power sources will be exploited to realize a new product called PEA Card (Power Embedded Active Card). The market analysis shows that there is a demand for products featuring a power supply integrated in a plastic card, provided that the achievable cost remains reasonable with regards to current card prices. The exact embodiment of the final product, e.g. the need for using a display, will be chosen in accord with the evolution of the market demand, which is presently being monitored. The activities of the Swiss partners, EPFL and High Power Lithium SA (HPL), will be integrated in the project 'PEAC-POCKET', within the 4th.EURIMUS APMM. This project was launched on 1st. December 2002 by the European partners CEA (Commission de l'Energie Atomique, France), STMicroelectronics (France) and HEF (Hydromech. et Frottement S.A.) (France ¿ SME specialist in surface technology). Therefore the proposed Swiss partners will be engaged for 2 years of the 3-year EURIMUS action, but with full parity with the established partners.
