Résumé des résultats (Abstract)

Regarding : e-Skin: Smart Sculptures in Interactive Environments application number KTI-Nr. 7111.1 e-skin Feasibility Study: e-Skin: tactile interfaces for navigation in space and timeWe now propose to conduct a feasibility study for the commercialization of the e-Skin interface and an extension of our original proposal submitted to the KTI in April 2004. The goal of this study is to find appropriate industry partners to develop the e-Skin interface and then modify the application accordingly. The study will still focus on the potential to make an interface based on tactility and wearability and combine the aids of orientation, navigation and communication. However, the modalities of pressure, temperature, vibration and proprioception will be used to conduct further research into haptics, tactility and acoustic response as an alternative to visual feedback. Therefore technical aim is to explore the sensory capabilities of non-visual perception, in order to re-design the electronic components of the interface. Therefore this feasibility study concentrates on three main tactile and acoustic services for potential users:- Navigational aids through which users can seek and find places- Information aids which can enable users to match and compare data- Communication aids which allow users to swap messages and recognize their proximity to sites and other peopleWe will search for the final application potential of e-Skin inside three markets:- Orientation aid for visually impaired people (for example shopping aids)- Tourism, specifically cultural tourism and congress visitors- Navigation tools for the Automotive industry (See list of specific industries in 3.C):The study will be conducted in the following way:1. Market Research. A survey of the targeted industries, which might be interested in such a product and a field analysis of users in these markets.2. Design Research. Drawing, plans and technical analysis of the interface, and development of its prototype
