High Frequency Energy Surgical Handpieces
Abstract
(Englisch)
The system will represent a novel means to cut, coagulate and remove soft tissue, cartilage, and bone, resulting in improved patient outcomes (by using a minimally invasive approach, and by reduced bleeding and necrosis of these elements), and better practitioner service due to improved efficacy, ease, and speed of use, as compared with the current state of the art.
Abstract
(Französisch)
The goal of this project is to develop a set of surgical hand-pieces for use in the minimally invasive cutting, coagulating and removal of soft tissue, cartilage and bone. Any surgical intervention requiring the cutting, coagulation and removal of these elements could be used for the first implementation. The initial market focus will be spinal disc material removal in support of nucleotomy, herniated disc repair, spinal fusion and / or disc replacement procedures. · The scientific objective is to develop a new disruptive minimally invasive technology for the cutting, coagulation and removal of cartilage, and bone, and for the cutting and coagulating of soft tissue. · The technical objective is to design and develop a series of surgical hand-pieces that can be driven from a common source of energy housed in a portable control console or the hand-piece itself. It is anticipated that the hand-pieces would constitute a disposable component for sterility reasons, and that the control console would be re-usable.
