The present submission is an additional part of the approved CTI 6169.2 MTS-LS project. In the treatment of patients with end-stage-renal-disease, peritoneal dialysis could become, if its efficiency was increased, a long-term alternative to classical hemodialysis. The aim of the ChronoDIAL project is to develop a mathematical model adapted to both the evolving characteristics of the peritoneal membrane and the innovative possibilities of the Debiotech micropump. Based on iteratively applied differential equations, the model will allow an optimisation of the in- and outflow patterns of the dialysate taking into account on an evolving individual basis, treatment time, volume, membrane constraints and clearance of different solutes. The ChronoDIAL project will lead to an improved automated PD system that is clinically and technically safe and provides a low cost portable device.
