Internet Patrolling and Intellectual Property monitoring
Abstract
(Englisch)
The Internet is a reflection of the physical world, and hence, counterfeit goods produced in the real world are sold on the Internet. Diverted, gray market and counterfeit goods are bought in one market or channel and sold into another, compromising channel partner relations, go-to-market strategies, pricing structures and, ultimately, market share. The scope of the counterfeiting problem is tremendous and spans almost every industry. Nearly any type of consumable item can be counterfeited. Two of the most important Swiss industries, namely the luxury watch industry and pharmaceutical, face the challenge of fighting against counterfeiting. Our proposal is to develop a solution based on an enterprise search platform to monitor the usage of brands and products over the internet, in order to allow companies to develop a proactive strategy to protect brand integrity and manage online channels. The developed solution will automatically capture and prioritize online brand and product data by capturing key Internet environments, including retail and business-to-business exchanges, providing factual data for legal and business purposes.
